The role of activists in the tranformation of public spaces in housing estates

anotace	Although there is an abundance of public spaces in modernist housing estates, they often lack the quality and complexity which would make them into high quality of life assets for inhabitants. Most of the players concerned with transformation of public spaces are applying top-down approaches sprinkled with participatory efforts, yet there is an increasing tendency of citizens playing the role of the key mover. The city of Berlin is well known for its’ bottom-up movements concerned with public spaces. This project researches urban residual areas in housing estates and their transformation into high value quality of life assets for the community.
